Jeffrey Berkus

Director of Special Initiatives

Jeff is an accomplished architect and climate innovator with over four decades of experience designing sustainable communities. He began his career founding Jeffrey Berkus Architects Inc., where he built a nationally recognized practice focused on forward-thinking built environments. His vision for sustainable design led to his role as lead designer and principal architect for the Aspen Institute from 2004-2021, where he helped shape one of America's premier centers for environmental and policy dialogue.

His commitment to environmental leadership extends beyond architecture through his role as Chairman Emeritus of the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies Board of Directors and as a Founding Board Member of the Living Peace Foundation. As a Limited Partner at Lowercase Capital, Frontier Capital, and Lowercarbon Capital, he has helped guide investments in transformative companies including Twitter, Uber, Commonwealth Fusion, Mosa Meats, and Antora, bridging the gap between sustainable design and climate technology.

Jeff holds a degree from the College of Environmental Design at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
